How to Train a Dog/Puppy
Any dog breed young or old can be trained...
Basic rules to live by for creating a harmonious relationship makes all the difference in the world, use these principles to make yourself a happy life-long companion.
Consistency:
Never confuse them by altering commands while training, dogs are eager to please you and you will be rewarded with faster results.
Making Basic House Rules:
Keep them out of the kitchen area, off the furniture or bedrooms again consistency is the key. If
they find that getting away with it now and then your
hard work will vanish.
Correction Timing:
Timing is crucial. Show some love when a command is followed. Reprimand bad behavior right away if they don't response to commands. Giving love or correcting
mistakes does nothing after the fact, it only causes confusion.
Tough Love Approach:
Requires ignoring your puppy dog when misbehavior occurs, (I know it's even tougher with those puppy dog eyes). The tough love approach by
ignoring is very effective, especially while misbehaving. They only deserve love
or a food treat when they obey the command.
Giving Love/Attention:
Dogs love attention period. Unlike humans,
dogs don't know how to tell if it's positive or
negative love. Life is simple to a dog/puppy. If a certain
action gets any reaction from you at all and attention is received, expect these actions to continue. Examples: "Do you let him out of
his crate when he whines/barks?" or "Do you chase them when they grab a shoe?" These are negative attention getters and reward bad behavior.
Only Reward Good Behavior:
Give rewards so they know why they're getting it. If this technique is used correctly, they will respond to these and behave accordingly for many years.
Training Mood:
Be sure your in the right frame of mind or in a good mood before a training exercise.
If you have experienced a bad day it's probably best to wait until you calm down or you're bad mood
will cause a set back to
future training exercises.
